Homewood & Arlington Heights, IL - CN, one of the largest railroads in North America, with extensive operations in Chicago’s suburbs, has donated $1 million to the Alexian Brothers Foundation to support construction of Alexian Brothers Children’s Hospital in Hoffman Estates, Ill. CN made the donation in keeping with its long-standing tradition of supporting children’s hospitals in communities it serves.
In recognition of the donation, Alexian Brothers Health System (ABHS) has renamed its EmergiKids emergency-care program for children as CN EmergiKids. The program offers separate emergency rooms for kids at St. Alexius and Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, Ill. The CN EmergiKids area at St. Alexius will be physically connected to Alexian Brothers Children’s Hospital.
“CN has a history of supporting children’s hospitals where it operates, so the new Alexian Brothers Children’s Hospital was a natural fit,” says Melanie Furlan, Vice President of the Alexian Brothers Foundation. “We’re very grateful for the support.”
Ground-breaking for Alexian Brothers Children’s Hospital occurred last May on the campus of St. Alexius Medical Center. The $117 million facility is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2013.
“CN is proud to support Alexian Brothers Children’s Hospital, which will benefit the health and safety of children in Chicago’s northwest suburbs,” says Jim Vena, CN’s Senior Vice President, Southern Region. “Through the CN Stronger Communities Fund, we are committed to helping provide a healthier and safer environment for children.”
ABHS already offers a full complement of pediatric sub-specialists, with more than 60 physicians in 21 pediatric sub-specialties. The six-level children’s hospital will provide a convenient, centralized location for many of ABHS’ pediatric services. Featuring pediatric neurological programs, pediatric surgery areas, and a pediatric intensive care unit, the new facility will allow suburban families to receive advanced pediatric care close to home.
