Leapfrog at Alexian Brothers Health System
Leapfrog aims to provide consumers and purchasers of healthcare, such as employers, with information they need to make informed health care choices and promote transparency within healthcare.
Leapfrog asks hospitals if they adhere to the following four quality and safety practices. Significant scientific evidence shows that these practices reduce unnecessary deaths and injuries.

Computerized Physician Order Entry system
(CPOE). This designates a hospital that requires its staff to use computers to order medications, tests and procedures. Alexian Brothers Health System is in the process of implementing a Computerized Physician Order Entry system.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Staffing. This measures whether a hospital with an intensive care unit (ICU) is staffed by doctors and other caregivers who have special training in critical care. These are doctors are called ‘intensivists'. Alexian Brothers Medical Center adult ICU has intensivist coverage 24 hour a day, 7 days a week. St. Alexius Medical Center pediatric unit has intensivist coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is planning a 24/7 intensivist program for their adult ICU.

High Risk Treatments. This indicates whether a hospital has lots of experience and the best results for specific procedures, surgeries or conditions. This is known as Evidence Based Hospital Referral.

Leapfrog Safe Practices Score. The Safe Practices Score is based upon 27 procedures that hospitals are assessed on toward the goal of reducing preventable medical mistakes. After completion of the Leapfrog hospital survey, each hospital's relative ranking, compared with other hospitals, will be displayed on the Leapfrog Web site, along with their results for the initial 3 Leaps.
