Center for Evidence-Based Practice at the Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital
The Center for Evidence-Based Practice (CEBP) assists clinicians and administrators at Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital (ABBHH) with developing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based practices. Evidence-based practices include assessment and treatment approaches that integrate the best available research evidence with clinicians’ expertise, while also accommodating patients’ individual values, characteristics, and circumstances.
CEBP Director, Jason Washburn, Ph.D, was recently interviewed by NPR for the article, "Out of the Shadows: The Rise of Bipolar Disorder in Children."
Primary Functions
- Implementation of Evidence-Based Practices. The CEBP disseminates evidence-based best-practices within ABBHH through consultation, protocol development, and educational seminars. Evidence-based practices are also disseminated outside of ABBHH through academic and professional publications, as well as presentations that reach a wide range of clinicians, researchers, administrators, and the lay public.
- Evaluation of Routine Clinical Outcomes. The CEBP routinely collects and analyzes clinical outcome data on patients at ABBHH. Data on psychiatric symptoms, quality of life, and functional impairment are collected routinely from patients to both evaluate individual patient progress and to improve overall program services.
- Conducting Clinically-Relevant Research. The CEBP assists ABBHH clinicians and collaborating researchers with systematically examining clinical questions through research at ABBHH.
Through these functions, the CEBP supports ABBHH’s academically-oriented approach to behavioral healthcare, bridging the gap between high-quality community healthcare and university-based teaching hospitals.
