Pre-Surgery Assessment:

The purpose of the health psychology evaluation is to assist you and your family in coping with the emotional, cognitive, and behavioral aspects of your medical problem and surgery.  During this 30-60 minute evaluation, you will meet with Dr. Kostas who will ask you about your personal experience with your particular condition and will help you to understand the impact it may have on your emotions, identity, and relationships.  Emphasis will be placed on helping you to understand the medical and/or surgical aspects of your condition and the challenges of recovery from surgery. 

Any need for emotional support, social services, and/or ongoing education that is identified in this evaluation will be coordinated with other members of our multidisciplinary team, allowing us to improve our treatment of you and your unique situation.  Follow-up services will be provided as needed either at Alexian Brothers Neurosciences Institute or by referral to appropriate community resources.
